Biography Paula McCarthy RGN

Paula McCarthy is a Registered General Nurse qualified 25 years+ with extensive experience in the public and private sectors.  

Paula has general nursing care expertise within a wide range of specialties including Renal, Urology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Oncology, Radiology, Pain Management, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Major Abdominal Surgery, including Liver and Pancreatic Surgery.

Introduction

Paula has held the position for 15+ years as Senior Clinical Nurse Manager, and on an ongoing basis she has deputised as Assistant Director of Nursing in one of the largest Private Hospitals in the Country which is part of a major Dublin Hospital Group; Paula had responsibility for the management of the care and long-term care planning for patients with significant physical disabilities resulting from a variety of conditions, illnesses, and injuries.

Paula had responsibility for the planning, implementation and supervision of patient care within the hospital setting, and she has extensive experience in dealing directly with outside agencies to coordinate long-term care plan programs, both in the hospital and in the home setting, using multi-disciplinary teams. Paula also was a member of the hospital wound care committee.

Paula has an excellent understanding of the most up to date practices, policies and procedures in a leading Irish healthcare Hospital group with detailed knowledge of the workings of the Private and Public (HSE) health care system, including responsibility for adverse incident reviews.

Paula has over 20+ years’ personal experience of the special needs services within the HSE for Adults and Children with mental and physical disabilities.

Since 2016, Paula has been independently dealing with Clinical Negligence Claims on behalf of the Court assessing Liability and Causation and determining present and future Cost of Care needs arising from personal Injuries. Paula has assessed patient care in major Hospitals and Health Care Institutions across the State. Paula has visited multiple patients and families in their Homes assessing their on-going needs following Injury.

Paula has extensive ongoing and up to date education in all critical aspects of nursing practice with an emphasis on quality care provision in line with international best practice.
